Lindt Bar & Chocolate Cult Visitor Contest

Sisters and Brothers, your Chocolate Priestess is fairly sure that most of you checked The Chocolate Cult today for one of three reasons. I hope you make it a part of your weekly if not daily routine to come and mediate with me on the Sacred Substance. Some of you were drawn in by the mention of Lindt, a well-known mass chocolatier throughout the world. Others saw the word "Contest" and were intrigued.

Let me start with revealing the Lindt 85% Bar. This bar is made of ten 1.6 inch squares. While one bar is 3.5oz, has 2.5 servings in it according to the nutritional information. The 210 calories for each serving contains 11g saturated fat (55% daily allowance!), 0mg cholesterol, 20mg sodium, 3g dietary fiber, 5g sugars, 4g protein, 4% calcium, 15% iron. On the plus side, as I've shared earlier, all of those health benefits you hear about chocolate do not start until you are at 80% purity so this bar certainly qualifies. However, many studies we've looked at in the past say you need to eat a few ounces a day so that would be more than one serving of this bar and then that saturated fat amount is a big issue.

Aside from the health considerations, there is the issue of taste. 85% is very bitter and I start to pucker as I chew and taste at this level. It even creates a slight burning sensation in my throat but water helps with that. From the very first small bite, there is a slow moving rush from my tongue through my mouth up my sinuses and into my mind that I can almost track second by second if I close my eyes and just feel. This is how one should fully enjoy the Sacred Substance but I know for many people this may be just a bit too intense. Lindt has several flavors and intensities of cocoa so you can experiment as I'm sure I will do in the future.

Now to the Contest.

As you may have notice, yesterday The Chocolate Cult passed the 10,000 unique visitor mark since March 28, 2009. Unique visitors include both newly visitors and returning visitors to the site, not the number of pages loaded or how many times you click on different parts. I am very pleased and honored that so many have found us at this point. Since yesterday I've kept copies of the comments posted on this site and I will continue to do so until Sunday, September 12, 2009. From those comments I will randomly choose a winner of a selection of products I've reviewed on the Cult.

Qualifying for this random drawing means that you:

1. Are a visible Follower of the Cult. In order to get into the drawing I must be able to confirm you a member.

2. You have posted a comment since September 8, 2009, and that comment was about the post you replied to and not just an ad for your own site. This comment must be on The Chocolate Cult's blogger.com page and not on Facebook or a private email to me.

3. You have an address in the USA so that I can easily send you the prize.

I will contact the randomly chosen commenter and ask for their address. If they do not have the required address, I will select another person until I find someone I can send the prize to.

Spread the Word to your friends, family and co-workers and let's keep building The Chocolate Cult.

Sisters and Brothers, may you too take the time to slowly appreciate what the Divine and human ingenuity have offered you in chocolate.

I fear that, much as I adore Lindt in general, the darker forms of the Sacred Substance are not for me.

Thank you, by the way, for revealing the toffee from Hico, Tx recently, as in following the links to and from the manufacturer's (really he seems to be more of an Artist) site, I encountered word of the 4th Annual Austin Chocolate Festival, soon to occur in my home town! I got a bit distracted at that point and forgot to come back and thank you at the time, so this will have to do.
Marca, you are not alone in your tastes. While the darker chocolate, 80+% is the healthy stuff, it is very intense for most folks. I can say that it would be almost a task for me eat such darker chocolate and it took more than two days for me to eat the above bar itself -- which fits with the nutritional label.

That's so great to hear that you found a chocolate festival near you. We have one in my town which I hope The Cult can participate in this year. I'll be hosting a chocolate walk in November -- information upcoming for everyone within distance of Nashville, Indiana.

Marca, if you are an official "follower" you'll be in the contest now as well so good luck.

The Lindt 65% cocoa bar is about as much as I can stomach. I've tried this bar and just couldn't do it.

Oh, and Marca, you just reminded me that October is the month that Indianapolis usually has its chocolate fest. I need to go find out exactly when it is. Thanks
