HELP! It's National Chocolate Cake Day

Your Chocolate Priestess had a 2011 plan.  Do you remember me talking about it at the start of the year?  I want to make something for every "Chocolate on the Calendar" day that I can.

"Can" is the key word.

Today is "National Chocolate Cake Day" and I did make a cake last week, trying the second of the three recipes I've dictated I must at least try from any cookbook before I review it.  It didn't turn out very well but here's a photo of it any way.  I'll talk more about this when I review that cookbook. I'll use the better photo then as well.

I would have made another, was planning on that with one of the Acolytes who loves baking with me, but guess what?  Yup, my entire household fell sick.  I'm focused on getting better because I have a big chocolate related event on Sunday I must be well for and I must have my voice back for.

I need your help.  I need to know what you are doing today to make up for my mess.  What kind or type of chocolate cake will you be making?  Or will you be buying a chocolate cake?  I'm buying one but we won't have it until tomorrow evening for a dual birthday celebration.

Please leave a comment and let me know that some of your "National Chocolate Cake Days" are going well.

I thought I'd let you know that when I was looking for some dinner deep in the back of the freezer I found to my delight some of the grown up chocolate button cake I had made last year - boy was that better than finding a bag of peas! I didn't wait for it to defrost just stuck it the microwave - the button melted also but hey ho - big squirt of cream on top and in my mouth in under 5 minutes ;-) Also amending my last recipe with the addition of a tablespoon full of golden syrup (corn syrup) improved it's texture and dare I say, it's keeping qualities. Hope you all feel better soon.

That is a wonderful find indeed, Pauline. I'm wondering if adding something like that might help this sad cake I tried... but it's a cookbook it should be better than this! Two recipes, two very dry baked goods while another book I'm trying is making wonderful treats.

I'm going to be using that cake mix I won earlier to make cupcakes and decorating them with mint candies. Originally I wanted to use Dove truffles, but I didn't have any luck finding those. So.. mint it is!

Maybe all the DOVE stuff has been sold for Valentine's? Our Sacrament this Saturday will be on a Valentine's Day box they sent us to review.

i baked and blogged about my chocolate cake for chocolate day - hershey's "perfectly chocolate cake" with mocha glaze. here's the link re: my misadventures in the kitchen: http://cacao-me.blogspot.com/ it looks like an alien invasion but tastes excellent. the people at my office loved it, gobbled it up, and didn't even save a piece for the boss who was away at a conference!
