Win Pink Together 2011 Gift Pack

BlogSpark has us doing a second neat giveaway for this month.  With Halloween approaching fast you might think we'd be giving away candy, right?  With the Annual Halloween Treat Challenge that would be unfair so I'm glad to have these other opportunities for you all.

As you may know, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also October with National Wear Pink Day on the 28th.  Pink Together is a program trying to spread awareness about the month, about the disease as well as be community for survivors, fighters and friends and family of people who have or have had breast cancer.  In honor of that and to promote aware of a disease that can afflict men as well as women, I decided this was a good cause for us to support.

I have two things to do with you today, Sisters and Brothers.

First, if you leave a comment and tell me whether or not you normally do anything in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month you will be entered to win your own gift pack like this one below which I also received.

Win some of the above for leaving appropriate comments.

Specifically you'll win
  • A 16 oz. box of Total cereal
  • VIP coupons valid for one box of Cheerios and Multigrain Cheerios cereal and one cup of Yoplait yogurt
  • Betty Crocker Living with Cancer Cookbook Pink Together Edition, which includes a collection of more than 150 delicious recipes with complete nutrition information and a 32-page Pink Together Survivor Ambassador bonus section that shares inspirational personal stories of survival as well as recipes
  • Water bottle and removable silicone awareness bracelet
  • Drawstring sport backpack
  • Rhinestone ear buds
Perhaps you have a personal story about breast cancer or you've worked with/bought products with the Komen Program that raises money for research on a cure for breast cancer.  Some folks have made videos even to tell their stories.

You do not need to leave those person comments here on The Chocolate Cult, just tell me if you do anything at all to support Breast Cancer research.  For example, just yesterday when I went grocery shopping, I bought about a dozen items that were marked with the pink ribbon symbol and I've donated money directly or sponsored a friend doing a walk or run to earn money for the research.

Secondly, you'll notice that several of freebie coupons are for cereal and I know that all of us have made cereal bars before, right?  There is also a freebie for yogurt, just one container, I bought chocolate whipped variety that I'll use to bake brownies or something.  I had hoped to bake something for you today but suddenly this past week it is summer again and I become very conscious of wasting energy by baking when the temps are in the 80s.  90s and above the air conditioner is working anyway but in the low 80s it may not come on until late in the day depending on how cool the evening was.

One of the prizes you can win is this cookbook.  I looked through this eagerly.  Let me tell you a bit about it.  This is from Betty Crocker the folks sponsoring the giveaway.  The first 32 pages look at the Pink Together project with information about breast cancer research, some sample recipes, some personal stories about people touched by breast cancer.  The cookbook itself has eight chapters each focused on dealing with the side effects of breast cancer treatments, planning for those periods during chemo when you have less energy, and still thinking about feeding yourself and your family so you feel like eating.  Let's be honest, fighting any illness, any disease, takes energy and we get the most energy from the food we eat.

Sadly only one of the dessert recipes has cocoa and chocolate in it and I didn't see any other recipes using our Sacred Substance.  Do any of you, Sisters and Brothers, know why this might be?  Once you've left a comment about what you do to support breast cancer research or if you think about it at all, you can leave a second comment for a second chance to win and tell me why you think chocolate can be part of a cancer fighter's diet or not.

Make sure I can email you if you win this.  Check the ID you use when you leave a comment, is an email attached so I can reach you?  If not then you can't win.

"Disclosure: The Pink Together prize pack, information and coupons have been provided free of charge by General Mills through MyBlogSpark."

I don't do much differently during Breast Cancer Awareness month. I make a point to wear my pink ribbon stuff more often (and I have a lot of that, including a very big, flashy, attention-grabbing pin.) One year my belly dance troupe got to dance at the IU Women's Basketball half time show on Breast Cancer Survivor Day. We all wore pink, too. It was really fun.

Breast cancer runs in both sides of my family so it really shouldn't have surprised me to have an abnormal mammogram a few years ago. But thanks to early detection, mine was caught at the microscopic stage. And thanks to a great team of doctors I'm three years cancer free. I participate in Race for the Cure every year and like to use my story to encourage other women to get themselves checked out.

I donate to breast cancer causes and make sure to buy pink varieties when it goes to breast cancer research.
