Godiva Gift #2

Back in July, your Chocolate Priestess revealed a cute gift from Godiva that she received to thank her for some non-Cult work she did. Today I want to look at a second gift I received that same weekend but from the Milk Chocolate Acolyte. He gave me the 8 count Godiva Signature Truffles which included one of the coconut offerings I passed along to our newest Acolyte as well as seven others in both milk and dark chocolate. If our Chocolate Coconut Acolyte would just add her review as a comment when she gets around to trying it, it would be very helpful.

Inside this box set the eight truffles along with two very important pieces of paper. One was the Nutrition Facts where two truffles equals one serving. Since this a generic listing of nutritional information that suggests that Godiva goes to lengths to make all the truffle equal or they simply average everything. In general then, two of these truffles have 8g saturated fat, 10mg cholesterol, 20mg sodium, 2g fiber, 17g sugars, 3g protein, 4% calcium and 8% iron that an adult needs daily. This seems very much with the normal range for truffles of this size and quality.

The second important paper was a little booklet showing and naming the varieties of truffles which might be in this box. Eleven varieties are shown and this box had eight of them. I will briefly say what I thought about seven of the flavors.

The Hazelnut Praline is the one with the nuts on top of it so it was easy to identify. Inside the milk chocolate ganache was a mixture of nougat and nuts which really overwhelmed the chocolate.

The French Vanilla had a white curly line along the top. The outer shell was dark chocolate while the inside was a white vanilla cream. The two flavors mixed very smoothly together.

The Milk Chocolate had two darker lines over the top. It was simply pure milk chocolate inside and out and it provided a smooth, minor buzz as well.

The buzz was great in the Extra Dark Chocolate which is the cocoa covered truffle on the right side in the above photo. It had a firmer center than the other truffles, the cocoa powder was very intense and it did require a few sips of water since it was very dry.

The Roasted Almond is milk chocolate with large curling lines on the top of the same chocolate. The almond nougat tasted a lot like Nutella when it mixed with the chocolate but in the end the nuts overwhelmed the cocoa.

A single red line graces the top of the Double Chocolate Raspberry. The chocolate ganache is very thick and it covers a soft raspberry center that has those annoying little seeds in it so you know its real raspberry. The darker chocolate was countered well by the sharp fruit taste.

Finally the Dark Chocolate gave an excellent buzz with a delightful balance of sweet and bitter. This dark truffle had matching lines along the top and an almost matching dark, creamy center.

Thank you, Milk Chocolate Acolyte, for this lovely little gift. You can buy Godiva in prepackaged gift boxes or create your own if you have a store near you. You can also join their loyalty program and get free samples in store as well as discounts both on and offline.

Sisters and Brothers, may you too take the time to slowly appreciate what the Divine and human ingenuity have offered you in chocolate.

The milk chocolate coconut truffle was an interesting mix. The ganache was thick and soft with white cross-hatching over the top. The chocolate buzz hit me fairly quickly The filling was white and had a buttery consistency and flavor to it. The coconut flavor was moderately strong and natural despite the lack of real coconut in it.

My thanks also to the Milk Chocolate Acolyte for this selection.
