Melting Pot Kit |
Speciality kitchen gadgets can be a useful or wasteful; this one is very useful if you work a lot with melting chocolate or products similar to the candy melts that WIlton also makes. In this kit you get one bag of their Light Cocoa Candy Melts made with cocoa powder processed with and without alkali. The pot has two parts -- the heating unit that you plug into a standard outlet and the silicone pot with handle that you place inside of it.
The silicone pot cleans very easily but as with all silicone product do not use anything metallic or with sharp/rough edges or you may damage it. Clean ups is very easy but should be done by hand. Just follow the simple directions. Use only silicone or rubber utensils when stirring or cleaning, just as you'd for any silicone product or non-stick surface. Water did get caught between the rim and the outside but the body of the pot is very flexible so that was easy to dry. You need it to be dry -- water is a serious problem for chocolate, it will make it seize and then is it useless.
It does take the heating unit a bit more than the 5 minutes to preheat but once it does, it takes less than a melt for 20 or so candy melts discs to fully melt. Adding more discs in will slow down the melt time. I also tested it with 72% pure chocolate and it melted very well and cleaned up and melted both with ease if you only add a handful of discs at a time. I'll talk about the candy melts themselves next week so come back to see that, please.
The candy melts and the chocolate are hot when melted but the silicone pot stayed relatively cool. This had the benefit of making it very easy for me to dip in cookies by hand and not worry about burning myself. This is a huge plus if your chocolate want to help you make candy coating or chocolate treats that require melting the coating/chocolate first. The pots is also very sturdy and I was able to remove it to pour or dip out the melted candy into molds or drizzle over treats. As I said though, the candy melts are a bit too thick to pour and I tried it with the Light Cocoa Candy Melts and the White Candy Melts.
If this pot looks like it would make your candy and treat making easier and you have room in your kitchen, buying one through our links helps out The Chocolate Cult through the Amazon Associates program. I've linked to the exact set we were sent to test for review. Happy Treat Making for Halloween!
