Where's the Chocolate?

Of the three candies that were included in this huge, six pound bag from By the Cup, only one had any chocolate in it: the Peanut Butter Bars made by Atkinson Candy Company, which has been around for almost one hundred years. I'll mention the other two candies in this bag in passing because their quality is a reflection of By the Cup as a place you may or may not want to order from. I received this 6 lb By The Cup Bag of Atkinson Candy via the Amazon Vine program in exchange for sharing my honest experience in a review on that website; no other form of compensation was received. This article on The Chocolate Cult is an unexpected bonus.

The Mary Jane candies were supposed to be taffy like because they are a blend of molasses and peanut butter. Instead each and every one (I took them out of the bag to sort, so I squeezed all of them) was hard; not even sucking on them bad them better.

The Chick-o-Sticks Nuggets should be crunchy and crisp because they are toasted coconut, peanuts, and a caramelized syrup. I remember eating these when I was very tiny and not knowing that it was coconut at all. A few pieces were entirely unwrapped and the rest so loosely wrapped that each one I tried, tasted stale.

Finally we get to the chocolate candy, Peanut Butter Bars which should have a smooth and creamy peanut butter center surrounded by chocolate. Or at least that used to be what they were made from. Now nothing from cacao tree is used in the production of this once delightful treat. Instead of smooth and creamy it was just crunchy and tasted sweet, not like peanut butter even.

This entire bag was nothing but disappointment. Do not get it.
