Tomorrow is National Brownie Day! It always falls on December 8th, but what I'm going to share today you may be able to find quickly and make for that Fun Food Holiday.
Months back, I had a wonderful freebie on my Kroger loyalty card for one Betty Crocker mix. There is zero expectation when these freebies appear other than I get it and then use my experience with the item to decide to buy it in the future. Since we talk about chocolate here on this blog, I picked the most chocolatey brownie mix on the shelves that day – Betty Crocker Delights Supreme Triple Chunk Brownie Mix.
To make this you'll need a bowl, a spoon to mix and transfer batter with, measuring cups/spoons, a baking pan, and an oven. The brownie mix list our sacred substance three times under "Chocolate Chips and Chunks," "Chocolate Chips", and "Cocoa Processed with Alkali." I'm not sure why the brand listed things this way because as you can see the difference between chip and chunk is minor, basically the chunk is more cube, and the ingredient are identical for both chips and chunks. Check out the photo below and see if you can spot the chip and the chunk. There are a fair amount of them but getting the dry ingredients off of them was a challenge.
I made most of the mix in my regular brownie pan and the remaining in my mini brownie pan. I love the sides of brownies and cake as long as they don't burn so I use these pans as often as I can. I really wish I could find a brownie pan that held a full mix worth of brownies with 16 or 20 sections instead of 12. For now, I can choose which size to enjoy. These were crisp along the edges and chewy inside, just the way I like my brownies. Note that instead of whole egg, I only use egg whites and that will affect texture. Once these are made, you can't see the difference between chips and chunks. I would say these are about as chocolatey as the average brownie, no more, no less.
While a lot of foodie blogs out there focus on "from scratch" I've alway been focused on helping you figure out what is best for your money, your body, and your time. A lot of us turn to baking mixes because of the time factor or because we lack space to have a sizable pantry to hold all the ingredients you'd need. I hope my sharing experiences using this mix helps you decide whether or not it would be something you add to your own pantry and serve to your own family and guests.
