Will Fiber One Do Right by Donuts?

I was lucky to get a freebie coupon on my Kroger loyalty card for a box of Fiber One 100 Calories Donuts last year. I tested it fairly quickly, but I'm only sharing it with y'all now because January is National Fiber Focus Month. Fiber is a necessary part of our diets even if nutritionally it doesn't add more than making it easier for our bodies to get rid of what we don't need. I've been eating Fiber One products for years and the quality between products and over those years have changed. I'm going to share my honest opinion with you because I did not get this free product in the hope that I'd review it, but I'm going to any way.

The first thing I want to show you is that this is about the size of a Hostess Double Chocolate donette; see above photo. There are only four donuts. That is deeply disappointing because this makes this product 20% more expensive than their regular fiber bars. At $1 a donut for Fiber one this is far more expensive than the Hostess donettes I compared them directly with that clocks in at 18¢ per donette. Toss into that the fact that these have 30 calories more per donut than the bars which have 70 calories, and almost 7 calories more than the Double Chocolate donette, and I was shocked. Sure, the new donut has 4X the fiber, but it is also

There were only two varieties for this product when my freebie coupons was active – Chocolate Coated and Strawberry and Creme. Obviously, I got the chocolate variation. Cocoa Powder is the 8th ingredient on the list because this is simply coated and not chocolate inside and out. That coating has a waxy taste and texture to it because they use palm oil instead of cocoa butter.

I cannot recommend these unless the recipe used changes radically. Stick to their brownie fiber bars and you'll be much happier.
