What do you think of when you think of nonpareils candy? I think of decoration for cookies or cake, I don't picture myself just eating this type of candy by itself. Usually they are more sugar than chocolate tasting. Of course I imagine them being on the small side, like a dime. We'll see if that was true of the bag of Cocoa Poppers I got from Toad-Ally via the Amazon Vine program in exchange for a review of the product on that website. This review on The Chocolate Cult is an unexpected bonus that I was paid nothing for and therefore I can be 100% honest sharing my experiences.
The folks at Toad-Ally are not fooling around with their nonpareils candy. Their Cocoa Poppers are dark chocolate with white on one side, the domed side. These are large at 1.25 inches in diameter and more than a quarter inch thick at the top of the gently sloping dome. They don't smell like much but when I put the chocolate side down to test it, I got a wonderful darker flavor than I was expecting. The hard, white sugar balls side adds a crunchy texture and sound to the enjoyment, but it is a bit too sweet for me, so after I tried it that way, I went back to chocolate side down. And eat them I happily did though I did share them as well. If you have a chocolate or nonpareil fan in your life, I think they will like these a lot.
