Happy Valentine's Day 2026 from The Chocolate Cult!
No V-Day themed post today, because we are looking ahead to another fun food holiday. February 20th, about one week from today, will be National Muffin Week here in the USA. I had an opportunity to get some free muffins from Schär using the Social Nature program that I'm a member of; I get cash/gift card back when I purchase and review select products. Often there are only specific varieties covered by this program, so I was happy to see that Chocolate Chip Muffins qualified. No other form of compensation was received in exchange for sharing my review of this product on the Social Nature website, and this article is an unexpected bonus for the brand. Let's get into the muffin! The first thing to note is that when I got my grandmother's old muffin tin out to compare, the size of the five muffin the Schär bag was pretty close if you fill your cups up about halfway. As you can see in my photo, each of the muffins is individually wrapped and has a paper liner on it as well. I wish the plastic wasn't there because I prefer less trash be generated, but I also understand that a product from Spain (which these are) needs to think about their items surviving shipping. The muffin has a nice golds color and you can see chocolate chips of varying numbers which also gives it a "homemade" sense. The chips are listed as dark chocolate so I have high hopes for these in terms of our sacred essence showing up strong on my taste buds.Inside you can see that the chips have fall toward the bottom of the muffin. When I make muffins, bread, cake, cupcakes with added solid ingredients in them like baking chips or candy pieces, this often happens to my final goods, too. That adds to this feeling of "homemade," doesn't it? You can also see air pockets so you know this isn't' overly dense which is good. The fragrance of the dark chocolate is lighter than I ideally want, but it is there. The primary scent is a general grain and sweet combination. The texture is good, but it does dry out quickly once you cut it open. The flavor is that general grain sweet with bursts of darker chocolate when you encounter a chip that also makes a tiny snap as you bite into it.I did like these but at more than a dollar a muffin I want something that doesn't dry out so quickly. If you can find it on sale or have a coupon to get these under a buck a piece, try it out yourself. In terms of the chocolate chips, these meet our requirements here on The Chocolate Cult, making these muffins close to but not at the level of sacrament.I wish that I had the option to get the Chocolate Chocolate Chip Muffins with the offer of cash back, but that's not how the program works. I wonder if they would have been drier or retained their moisture better and had a stronger chocolate punch. Note to Schär: If you give me a sample of the more chocolatey muffins we will test and write about them here on The Chocolate Cult.
