More to Celebrate than Halloween in October

This year is The Chocolate Cult's 9th Annual Halloween Treat Challenge and we have a field of challengers for our Saturdays on the schedule. If you are a chocolate or candy maker, a baker, or goodie seller, we would be open to adding you in a mid-week position but you have to contact us fast! There are a lot of "holidays" in October that are not Halloween that you can celebrate with chocolate. Here are a few with links to previous articles we have written about them in the past 9 years.

October is the home for three, that's right, 3 month long "holidays" that are screaming for chocolate.

October is National Dessert Month!

Remember our testing of Kane Candy's Chocolate Dessert Cups? No? Here's just one of our articles plus a photo from another article featuring a different shape of chocolate cup from that same company.

October is National Cookie Month!

October is National Caramel Month!

I'm so sad that starting next week and for 1.5 to 2 years I won't be able to have caramel or anything else sticky while I deal with some misaligned teeth that are causing me headaches. I do have several assistants willing to "jump on the caramel" if some maker out there insists on sending us some.

October = first full week is National Mental Health Illness Week -- While chocolate, particularly darker and purer chocolate, can have a positive impact on our bodies it shouldn't be used as a substitute for therapy or medication.

October 1 = National Homemade Cookie Day -- What? I guess homemade cookies are different from just any cookie so I'll let this one pass in this month. Have you tried our last recipe for homemade cookies yet?

Berry Delicious Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

October 7 = National Frappe Day

2ndWeek of October = National School Lunch Week -- Hey, my school lunches either in the cafeteria or what I packed were always better with a little chocoolate.

October 9, 1797 = Birthday of Philippe Suchard, founder of what was once the greatest chocolatier in Switzerland, creator of the Milka bar

October 10 = National Angel Food Cake Day; World Mental Health Day

October 14 = National Chocolate-Covered Insect Day -- Have never tried this, would never buy this, but if some maker out there wanted to send us samples, I'll try to be objective.

2nd Thursday = National Dessert Day -- Seriously? One day in an entire month celebrating desserts? Does that seem like overkill to anyone else? If you'd like to do something extra to celebrate that day but not add calories check out this card game we reviewed: Just Desserts

3rd Saturday in October = Sweetest Day -- Is it just me or is this like an off-season Valentine's Day attempt?

October 16 = World Food Day -- Go out and find a chocolatey product from another country. Better yet, try to find one from another continent.

October 17 = National Pasta Day -- Yes, there is chocolate pasta and you can use chocolate sauces or chocolate shavings to make a dessert pasta.

October 18 = National Chocolate Cupcake Day -- Some of the best cupcakes in my town come from Palette Cupcakes.

October 22 = National Nut Day -- Nuts + Chocolate = YUM!

October 28 = National Chocolate Day -- Two thoughts about celebrating this. #1 get some chocolate made in your own nation or #2 just eat chocolate!

October 30 = Buy a Donut Day -- Where is your favorite donut shop? A new place is opening not far from us so I may check it out this day and report back to you all. Would you like that?

October 31 is, of course, Halloween but it is also National Candy Apple Day

How are you planning to celebrate with Chocolate this month?
