The 12th Annual Chocolate Walk

We have participated in the Brown County Humane Society's Chocolate Walk for eleven years now. This year, 2019, is the 12th charity event and as we have have for the previous walks, we are bringing you information about the event, about the work it helps support, as well as information about where you'd walk and the treats you might get if you participate, too. This walk happens in Nashville, Indiana, on Saturday, November 9, 2019. The event starts around 10 am and finishes by 5 pm. I and a small group always try to get there when it opens because Nashville is hilly and it is good to give yourself a lot of time to finish.

I have official word from the Brown County Humane Society that there will be 35 stops on The Chocolate Walk this year. Six of them will be brand new stops so that means 29 will be locations those of us familiar with the event will know.

The Brown County Humane Society’s chocolatier this year is Clif Bar & Co. so we know you'll be able to sample their creations along the walk.

Nashville is a cute community but when the Chocolate Walk or other events are happening, it can be difficult to find a place to have lunch. So this year, the BCHS has partnered with four other non-profits to provide quick lunch options at the courthouse lawn which you will walk through as you participate in this event.  The non-profit at the courthouse include: Boy Scouts, Hamblen Township Fire Department, South Central Indiana Community Action Program and Psi Iota Xi.

But there are three other quick lunch options at three of the chocolate stops, too! These will be at Artist’s Colony Inn (returning stop), the Salvation Army (new stop sponsor), and Brozinni’s Pizzeria (returning stop)!

If you go bring good shoes and dress in layers so as you walk you can peel off layers as you heat up. What will the weather be like? Who knows? Over the years I've been walking this event it has been warm enough for just pants and a t-shirt and then another year so cold that I was in gloves and a hat as well as a winter coat. It has rained on and off but never a downpour that lasted the entire walk.

If you need to stop and take a break, finding a place to do so can be difficult. There are benches here and there around Nashville but the shops really don't want to hanging out unless you are shopping or buying food or drinks to enjoy there. This year the BCHS will have a large tent at the courthouse lawn where you can hang out for a bit, listen to some music, and even eat that quick lunch  you picked up.

These are all promising developments for this annual charity event. I'm really looking forward to going with my group again this year. Remember if you do, you help insure that abandoned pets find good homes and support a highly successful Humane Society branch in Nashville, Indiana.
