With the vaccine, I am feeling up to joining the Brown County Humane Society's annual Chocolate Walk. So today I'm going to tell you a bit about it and share the link so that if you are fully vaccinated, too, you can join me.
The Chocolate Walk is one of the largest fundraisers that the Brown County Humane Society (BCHS) in Nashville, Indiana, holds every year. Taking of unwanted pets and finding them good homes takes a lot of money -- $32,000 a month to just support their open admission shelter. While I have not been to their new shelter, we toured the previous one a few years back. They had not only space for the animals but medical services, socialization areas, and places for humans to meet their future furbabies.
The BCHS is a private charity that does not receive funding from the national humane society. It relies upon us, the people who care about animals and, in this case, who love chocolate. Their 2019 "save rate" was 98%, finding new homes for over 700 pets a year. They also support efforts to help pet owners through various programs so that families can stay together.
I've been to many of these walks over the years, always with between one and ten other people. While most of the attendees are from Indiana, 16% come from elsewhere so hotels, inns, B&Bs and rentals fill up fast for the date of this event.
To buy your tickets, go here BCHS Chocolate Walk and remember that price will go up by $5 if you wait too long. Plus, the tickets tend to sell out so quick, go buy your ticket!
I'll share more information about this year's Chocolate Walk so stay tuned to this blog.
If you buy your ticket and plan to be at the BCHS Chocolate Walk, leave me a comment and let me know. I may just want to take your photo if we run into each other at the event.
