Hats on to the Great Baker

Like last week, I'm reviewing a chocolate related game that you might want to consider as you think about gift-giving. Bake it Happen is a card game for 3+ people ages six and up. It is made by the company Lucky Egg whose games I have not played before. As you'll see below the box is designed as an oven on the front and the sides. We'll look at the components of the game and I'll give you my family's experience playing it multiple times. I got a copy of this game from free via the Amazon Vine program in exchange for reviewing it there; no other form of compensation was received and this post about my experiences with the game is an unexpected bonus for the publisher.

Inside this clever box, you find a chef's hat (made of fabric not paper) which barely fit all of our heads, but then it also has to fit kids' heads, too. I would like more stretch in the hat for our family. You get three sets of cards:Ingredients, Recipes, and Extra Goals. Not that the color scheme used is muted. Since there are many Ingredients that can make it a bit difficult to differentiate between items unless you have good lighting.

The smallest deck is the gray Extra Goal cards. These are bonuses that everyone can play. These were worded oddly, saying "have more than 2/3/4" when it could have been more clearly stated "have 2/3/4 or more."

The Recipe deck has a variety of treats from ones that are baked (what you'd expect) to ones that may not need to be baked at all. You can go to the Lucky Egg website and find recipes for each card in the game if you want to make them for yourself. Below you'll see a few of the chocolate Recipes I kept trying to get.

The Ingredients deck is huge and you will collect so many of these as you play that it may feel overwhelming, especially if your hands are smaller. Since there are limited ingredients, I've included them all in the below photo. Some Ingredients also have Actions you can do at any time before you end your turn. The Actions are not exclusive to any Ingredient so pay attention.

The play was fast to learn, though some clarity required us to discuss things as we play in the first two games. Read the directions carefully and have fun! I think Bake It Happen would make a good gift for your chocolate lover or card game lover.
