Limited Godiva Recall

It is ironic today, Sisters and Brothers, that as your Chocolate Priestess was going to talk about a gift of Godiva products she recently received that I saw notice of a recall involving some of their products.

Specifically, two boxes of products sold for Valentine's and Mother's Day, the "G Collection". Visiting the Godiva website I don't see mention of this voluntary recall so I recommend calling your local or regional store to make sure before you bring a product back -- terrible to burn gasoline and your time to find out they won't take the product back. A further search of their website does not reveal what this "G Collection" looks like so I'm sorry, Sisters and Brothers, but I can't help you determine which products this is.

Though honestly do any of you have left over candy from either Mother's Day or Valentine's?

This is a recall which relates to another recall involving the Plainview Milk Cooperative. Most chocolatiers rely upon other companies for the ingredients they use in making their products and this is a good example of the connectivity between businesses. Remember whenever you buy a product you are supporting not just that business who label is on the item but also everyone down the line who supplies them in some fashion.

Sisters and Brothers, may you too take the time to slowly appreciate what the Divine and human ingenuity have offered you in chocolate.

Dear Chocolate Priestess,
Thank you for *almost* reviewing your recent Godiva chocolate gift, and we're sorry that it was eclipsed by the recent news of the recall. We do however appreciate you helping us get the word out.

As always the safety and satisfaction of consumers is the top priority of Godiva Chocolatier. This recall is being issued because one chocolate piece in the G Collection - the Praline Crunch – contains a dry nonfat milk ingredient from Plainview Milk Products Cooperative, which has reported potential salmonella contamination on its equipment. This recall does not affect any Godiva branded products, only one chocolate piece in the G Collection - a maroon colored piece that has a raised G on its top. This piece is contained within G Collection boxes that are brown with lime green trim for Mother’s Day or brown with red trim for Valentine’s Day. While the G Collection has a short 6-week shelf life which has long-time passed for the Valentine’s Day gift boxes and has largely passed for the Mother’s Day gift boxes, Godiva is issuing this announcement as a precautionary measure to ensure consumer safety. Consumers should not consume the recalled product and should discard any remaining product they may have in the box. Please contact us at 1-800-9GODIVA with any questions or to request reimbursement for purchased product. We hope that you continue to enjoy Godiva products.

We look forward to hearing your future chocolate ruminations.
Sweet Regards,
Godiva Chocolatier
Thank you for this information. I'm sure it will help people. I'm sorry this happened to one of your products, it seems that food recalls are increasing in the USA and I've speculated on what is going on with this in other posts.

I will be revealing the two gifts of chocolate from Godiva I received later this week and next. If you want to send any for me to review for a "Saturday Sacrament" send me an email and I'll tell you how.

If at any time Godiva were to use any of my words here, please include a link back to the post itself.
