We'll this "National Ice Cream Month" of reviews by returning to scoops of ice cream. We've looked at a lot of fun bars and treats, creative flavor combinations, and even your Chocolate Priestess's first foray into making homemade ice cream by herself. Today we turn to an easily found supermarket brand from her local Kroger: Turkey Hill.
Turkey Hill is a recent addition to my local grocery store's freezers, appearing maybe two or three years ago. Normally it is much lower price than the bigger brand name ice creams they sell, coupons are in our local newspaper a few times a year, and their quality is generally comparable. However, just like the bigger names have been decreasing their container sizes so too does this brand offer 1.5 quart boxes instead of the 2 quart boxes I grew up with. Honestly, do they think we don't notice or do they realize that when everyone does it we are left with no choice as consumers?
This "Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough" is one of their "Light Recipe" varieties which I tend to favor over the premium myself since I can save some calories and still get a good tasting treat. Because I was taking this photo to your left, I used our cute ice cream cone shaped bowls with matching spoons that our grandparents sent us for Christmas many years ago. You can see the chocolate chips here and some of the round cookie dough bits. Remember, this is safe cookie dough not the type that you should be wary of eating because of raw eggs; no eggs are listed at all on the ingredients' information. 1/2 cup, clearly I had more in this bowl, has 120 calories, 2g saturated fat, 10mg cholesterol, 85mg sodium, 1g fiber, 14g sugars, 2g protein, with 8% vitamin A and 20% each of calcium and vitamin D. The chocolate does taste chocolaty while the cookie dough pieces are nice and firm inside the creamy vanilla ice cream. Delicious though not as much chocolate as I like.
Do you have a flavor brand of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, Sisters and Brothers, or do you make your own?

If I buy ice cream, I usually buy Blue Bunny or Breyers. If you want to talk good ice cream, in Calabash North Carolina, there is an ice cream store called Calabash Creamery and it is awesome!
Your review was very nice and balanced and you can never have too much ice cream(well, yes you can but, who cares?).
Keep up the good blogging!
