Should You Celebrate National Candy Day with Butterfingers?

Today is National Candy Day so we're going to look at a variation of two candies I grew up eating. Reese Peanut Butter Cups were a brand I loved but I also liked several other brands versions of the peanut butter cup. I liked them in any form. My mother had a recipe I use to this day. I've tweaked it a bit to make it less unhealthy but isn't healthy so it remains a rare treat. I also grew up eating Butterfinger candy bars. The flavors of these two candies was similar but not identical. While the peanut butter cups were creamy and semi-soft, Butterfinger was hard and crispy. I loved them both. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Butterfinger now many peanut butter cups. I received this candy bar for free through my Kroger Loyalty Card; no other form of compensation was received and the Kroger company had no idea I'd be writing this post.

The cups are flatter than a Reese's, the top spread out further, the cup shorter over all. The scent is definitely Butterfinger with that almost sickly sweet fragrance that is unique to that candy. Cutting one open you can see that the texture is far more like a Butterfinger than a Reese's, too. Biting into it makes almost no sound and it seems very creamy yet as I chew there is a crunchiness and even stickiness, the orangish filling adhering to the tops of many of my teeth. The chocolate isn't very chocolate tasting, it has a waxiness to it that isn't pleasant. Oddly there is also little sweetness to the coating. The flavor is really about the center. Honestly, if the I'd rather have more crunch and more butterfinger if the chocolate is not going to be stronger. A different shape isn't worth it.

Given the calorie count (230) and my level of satisfaction, I don't think I'd buy it but I might not turn it down either if I were offered it in the future. Have you tried it? What did you think?

I agree the chocolate portion of is not particularly flavorful, but I really enjoy these. The balance of a cup and the butterfinger crunch is wonderful. And.....now I'm wanting one.
Hehehe... I wonder if you can even find them today, Sidhechaos.

Happy Candy Day!
