Allergy Friendly Ovals for Breakfast

Next week, March 4-8, 2019, will be National School Breakfast Week. I never ate breakfast at school when I was growing up. I won't get into the psychological problems battles over breakfast created for me. According to a study by Kaiser Permanente, more than 12 million school children participate in school breakfast programs. Obviously costs, time, and food allergies can make breakfast time a challenge for families so today I'm going to look in depth at one of the four varieties of enjoy life foods' new Breakfast Ovals, the variety with chocolate in it! I was sent 3 individual ovals and one box 5 for free in the hopes that I'd test them and write about the; no other form of compensation as received.

Let's look at the ingredients first in the chocolate chip banana Breakfast Ovals. As with all of enjoy life foods products, these are allergy friendly, meaning that they do not include Gluten, Wheat, Dairy, Soy, Sulfites, Lupin, Fish, Crustaceans, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Casein, Egg, Sesame, Mustard, or Shellfish. However that list is not inclusive of all potential food allergies or intolerances because frankly it seems like any type of food or ingredient might cause problems for someone out there but this list covers a lot of common food concerns. One bar has 220 calories and the ingredients highlights for this blog include unsweetened chocolate and cocoa butter to make the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Let's get down to eating this bar!

It has a strong cinnamon and banana fragrance with an edge of brown sugar and oats; no chocolate scent. The bar breaks apart easily and taking a bite makes no sound though chewing still make a soft crunch. My first bite is very much as the fragrance because I do not encounter a chocolate chip yet. Another bite has chocolate chips but that flavor, an unexpected sweet flavor given it is called semi-sweet, only happens as I directly encounter it. The banana is strong and really overwhelms the other flavors. The oats and cinnamon do kick in but the chocolate is sadly like an afterthought. The bar tastes good given that "chocolate chip" comes before "banana" on the label I want more chocolate and less banana.

The three other varieties of Breakfast Ovals we received one each of the berry medley and apple cinnamon and a 5 bar box of maple fig along with a insulated glass of interesting design. Please follow our links and check everything out.
