I bet a lot of folks who read The Chocolate Cult love chocolate milk and chocolate milk shakes. In the past decade there has been an explosion in health and fitness beverages mimicking these drinks. Today let's check out Ensure Max Protein Nutrition Shake. The target audience is generally older folks who may not be as interested in food a they used to be or who may find eating meats as a protein source to be a challenge because of teeth or jaw issues. Folks who have dental problems or surgeries can also benefit from such products; indeed, my hubby's oral surgeon has recommended during his recovery periods. But they still need to taste good or it is difficult to get your loved one to use them. I got this shake via the Kroger Friday Freebie program and neither they nor Ensure has any idea this review is coming.
You can just shake the bottle and open the cap and drink but I wanted you to see what it looks like so I poured it into one of our clearer glasses. Looks like chocolate milk, right? Let's look at the ingredient list in order: water, milk protein concentrate, calcium caseinate, and cocoa powder processed with alkali then a long list of ingredients that are less than 0.5%.
But how does it taste? Even though it has only 1 gram of sugars, it has a very sweet scent, a very soy smell to it even though there is no soy listed on the ingredients. It has a sweet flavor but not as strong as the scent suggested. The cocoa flavor is good and creamy to begin but has a weird aftertaste.
Have you used Ensure Max Protein Shake in the milk chocolate variety? If so, I want to know what you thought so please leave a comment.
