Alternative Heavenly Hash Recipe

Last year I learned of another fun food holiday that involved chocolate -- National Heavenly Hash Day is celebrated today, February 2nd. I went to find a recipe and discovered two types -- chocolate treat bars and non-chocolate salad-like dish.  The problem? My family hates those types of "salads" and most of the dessert recipes had almonds or other tree nuts, a no go with my hubby's allergy.

Ingredients:

1 stick margarine
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
4 ounces German's sweet chocolate
1 jar of creamy peanut butter
1 10 ounce bag of mini marshmallows
1 Cup dry roasted peanuts

Directions:

1. Grease an 11X9 inch cake pan. Pour the mini marshmallows and the peanuts into this pan and try to spread out evenly.

2. In a medium saucepan melt the other ingredient over medium low heat. Start with the margarine, add in the peanut butter, then break up the chocolate into small pieces.

3. Keep stirring until all of the ingredients are melted and blended together into a smooth mixture.

4. Pour the chocolate mixture as evenly as possible over the marshmallows and nuts.

5. Quickly and carefully fold the chocolate into the marshmallows and peanut to ensure it is all covered. If the marshmallows start to melt, STOP.

6. Place into the refrigerator for 60 minutes then remove and cut into squares to enjoy. You can eat it with your hands (they will get messy!) or with a spoon or fork.

Cover the pan and save leftovers for up to 5 days though I doubt they will last that low in many chocolate, peanut butter, and marshmallow loving households.

Total prep and active cooking was less than 10 minutes.

My mommy taught me a recipe she called "Yummy Bars" which is similar but uses just one type of chocolate and no nuts or peanuts of any type.
