Just in time for National Protein Day (February 27th), I have a review of a protein bar that claims to be healthy and chocolatey. But is it? Keep reading to find out. This was another Friday Freebie from Kroger sample from Kroger who had no idea I'd be reviewing this for all of you!
The bar has both cocoa powder, unsweetened chocolate, and cocoa butter in it. It also has dairy and almonds if those are allergy concerns for you. As you can see the chunks of chocolate and the almonds cannot be seen in the smooth uniformly shaped bar but of course you all want to know how it tastes, right?
Inside as you can see below it has a bit of a brownie look, very dense and dark. I take a bite and immediately I notice the lack of flavor and a dryness. This is perplexing. It isn't sweet or nutty tasting, I can't even pick out the flours used. A cocoa flavor does increase with each chew but it is still weak and sweeter than expected.
I'm sad to say that if you are on a quest to find a great chocolate protein bar then this one from QUEST is not what you are looking for. On the upside it has fewer calories than many other protein bars we've tested for the blog (190 calories) and it does use real chocolate ingredients. It has 20 grams of protein and 14 grams of dietary fiber, In place of sugar it has a lot of Erythritol, a sugar alcohol.
I hope this review has helped you in your search for a better more chocolate protein bar.
