For Kids or Gimmicky Snack Gift?

It wasn't uncommon for comics to team up with brands in decades past. Even today superheroes can be found on all types of merchandise though they are often the versions from movies or television shows that are currently popular or which want to be popular. Creating a superhero has also been a way to promote a new store, food, or toy. What happens when a snack company tries to create a superhero? Today we're going to see one such attempt from Snackman and judge how well it works. I got this box free through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for a review on that website. This article today is an unexpected bonus for both brand and Amazon; no other form of compensation was received for sharing my experiences with you all today.

Since the Snackman is supposed to be a superhero that kids will want to read more about after they get this gift box, let's look at the comic book and the two trading character cards that came with it. Interestingly Snackman is not one of the card, but we have the big bad, Lardo, and then one of the entities that "gift" the unnamed main character with his powers. There is the traditional background story covered in this comic along with a display of Snackman's powers -- all food based, arguably snack based though not necessarily snack related. The art is generic quality but the writing is terrible in terms of English grammar and logic. There is no artist or writer named for the book which as a published author I took great offense on their behalf. Given how many other comic books and graphic novels kids have exposure to, I can't imagine this would be exciting for any of them.

Now let's look at the 18 snacks themselves which I've divided into non-chocolate and chocolate. For a change, let's start with the chocolatey variety. According to the product page, there should have been MMs instead of the Quaker so this may be a substitution. Honestly this isn't much and nothing unique here.

The majority, or 89%, of the snacks do not have chocolate. Three as you can see are Snackman brand -- chips that are made with banana or coconut. This is the first snack gift box I've seen with the Pringles, Wise, and Synder's brands.

Is this gift box worth it? This is the first time in 2022 with all of the gift box and subscription boxes I've been looking at that I can say flat out that it is not worth it. The number of snacks isn't enough and the comic book is not good on any level. If you still want to check out the Snackman Variety box, you can use our links to do so.
