In 2024 a new type of chocolate got popular on TikTok – Dubai Chocolate – which is basically chocolate filled with a pistachio and shredded crispy phyllo pastry which I have seen spelled various ways (kataifi, knafeh, or kunafa). The flavor combination was made by Sarah Hamouda in 2021. You can add other ingredients as well which is what the Organic California LLC brand has done in this Dubai Gold Chocolate bar that I was sent for free via the Amazon Vine program. While I was expected to write a review about the bar based on my honest experience with it, this article on The Chocolate Cult is an unexpected bonus. No other form of compensation was received. Let's get to this bar.
Beyond the basics of the chocolate and the filling, there were additional ingredients such as two types of chocolate (white and milk) as well as Manuka honey (which has also become a trendy food). It just so happened that not long before I got this bar to test, I also got a jar of Manuka honey so I could directly compare it to the flavor of the filling in the milk chocolate bar. Let me honest. I really don't like like pistachios; I love and like other tree nuts, but not them. A friend who has done testing for us in the past helped me out. He tried the bar first and reports that the primary and strongest flavor was the pistachos followed by the milk chocolate. The crispy pastry parts just added texture to it that he thought was fine while another tester who helped out really didn't like it. Then we tried the honey and went back to the Dubai Gold Chocolate bar; we did not find a trace of the honey in the flavor at all. For all of the crispy pastry added, it didn't make much of a sound when we bit into it and as you can see form the photo below, it break easily in shipping to me.
I don't think anyone who helped me test it would buy this bar, though one would certainly eat it if offered it again. Given that the chocolate ingredient are real, our reaction to it is what will prevent this from earning "Best" status at the end of 2025. If you think you'd like, give it a try.
