Latina Ice Cream in Bloomington Indiana

Tomorrow will be National Ice Cream Day, so in honor of that, I want to share my experience with a local ice cream shop that I recently visited. A month or so back, my local newspaper ran an article about the top five ice cream shops in our city. Of those, my family and I had been customers at four of them; we hadn't heard of the fifth one! That had to be corrected.

We visited Ale's Ice Cream Shop on the westside of Bloomington, Indiana, one mid-Saturday afternoon. The claim to fame for this shop according to the newspaper article was that it was Mexican style ice cream made with real cane sugar, full fat, and ingredients that were fresh and reflected both White and Hispanic trends in the flavors. What I discovered before we went by finding the business's website, was that it was a Latina owned company, too.

We happen to arrive just as a girls' soccer team was finishing their orders so it was a bit crowded inside. But given that there was so many of them along with parents and siblings, most were finishing their treats before we got to the counter to order.

I had Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream which appeared to be the most chocolatey option on the menu board. My hubby got Peanut Butter flavor. The flavors were not just in the two cases you see in the above photo, but there were other flavors in the back; I know because mine came from the back.

We got only one scoop each because we visited the shop as part of our 34th wedding anniversary daylong fun that included eating out at other venues and going to a movie in a theater for a change. One scoop was enough because of all of the premium ingredients which pack a big caloric punch. The flavor was so wonderfully chocolate, that if it had be the only thing we did, I would have bought a pint and enjoyed it a few times at home. It can be difficult to get something as cold as ice cream to taste intensely chocolate, but this one did for both the ice cream and, of course, with the cookies in both large and small chunks.

A lovely shop that supports small business in our community and also offers an amazing treat at a reasonable price. I recommend checking it out.
