More Chocolate & Crime

Sisters and Brothers, not everyone follows the Path, not everyone uses the Divine Substance for spiritual growth, physical satisfaction, or even to simply add a little pleasure to their lives. No, sadly, some people use chocolate as a means to commit criminal activities.

Earlier this year, your Chocolate Priestess mentioned a string of home break ins where a person masqueraded as a chocolate bar seller to scope out houses and then steal things. Today I must report an even more shocking crime: Drug smuggling using chocolate as a cover. A woman was caught trying to bring illegal drugs into Australia by using chocolate bars to hide the scent from dogs. As you know from the "Saturday Sacraments" chocolate, especially the high quality type, should entice our sense of smell. Imagine how much more powerful that scent would be to dogs.

Aside from issues of illegality, I find it more odd that she would bother to smuggle another drug inside a perfectly legal one, chocolate. Remember that cocoa is a drug, it creates biochemical reactions in the body and mind, coupled with social expectations for these reactions it should have a profound affect on a person's emotional and mental condition.

Yes, yes, Sisters and Brothers, I've heard that illegal drugs can be quite profitable but not if you are caught where as chocolate, too, can be a good profit and it's perfectly legal. In fact, one of the few consistently good sells even in tough economic times are chocolate and cocoa products as we see in the markets time and time again.

Of course, the illegal drug dealers have no market without the buyers. The surest way to stop drug trafficking is to stop purchasing the products. I sincerely hope that all of you know that when you feel down or stressed or just want some fun, you have so many other things in your life to turn to including the Divine Substance in moderation. Good quality chocolates eaten slowly and purposely with an awareness of all the reactions in our senses is much safer, saner, and legal high.

Sisters and Brothers, may you too take the time to slowly appreciate what the Divine and human ingenuity have offered you in chocolate.
